Giorgio's Everest Marathon FINAL UPDATE
Giorgio and Marco completed the Everest Marathon and it is likely that Giorgio is the oldest person at 70 years of age to have completed a full marathon at this altitude. They endured many hardships in the lead-up to the marathon, acclimatizing to the high altitude being the most important thing – not to mention the extreme temperature variations, extreme cold, rugged terrain, sleeping in make-shift tents, carrying fully-loaded knap sacks and encountering yaks along the way. Over $41,000 was raised for their efforts and the Bermuda Diabetes Association was the main benefactor of the funds, with some also going to a local children’s charity in Nepal. Bermuda is lucky to have people like Giorgio and Marco, who along with Lindos supermarkets do so much in the way of charitable causes to the island and the membership and friends of the Bermuda Diabetes Association certainly thank them for their efforts. Giorgio's Everest Marathon - Original Story
Giorgio Zanol as well as the entire Lindo's Markets Organization have been long standing supporters of the Bermuda Diabetes Association. Now demonstrating that age is no barrier to "reaching for the sky" Giorgio plans to run in the highest marathon in the world, on the slopes of Mount Everest to help raise funds for the association yet again.
At 70 years old (5 years older than the normal maximum age allowed) this will be an amazing challenge which he will share with his son Marco, who is running the same marathon, as they raise funds for the Bermuda Diabetes Association and The Everest Marathon Fund in aid of Children's Development Projects in Nepal.
